V. M. Istemihan Genc, D.Sc.

Professor & Lab Head

Prof. Genc received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical University, the M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering, systems and control engineering, and systems science and mathematics from Istanbul Technical University, Bogazici University, and Washington University, respectively. After receiving the doctor of science (D.Sc.) degree in 2001 from Washington University in St. Louis, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. He was a visiting scholar during his postdoctoral studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University and also a visiting professor in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at Washington University.

His research interests include power system dynamics and stability, smart grids, optimization and control applications in power engineering and nonlinear dynamical systems. He is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. Dr. Genc has been a member of IEEE Power and Energy Society since 2003.

Yusuf Yaslan received the B.Sc. degree in computer science engineering from Istanbul University, Turkey, in 2001 and the M.Sc. degree in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), in 2004 and 2011, respectively, where he is an Associated Professor with the Computer Engineering Department. His research interests are watermarking, machine learning theory and applications, social networks, music recognition/recommendation, and data mining applications on IoT data and smart cities.

Sevda Jafarzadeh received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Tabriz University in Tabriz, Iran in 2015 and the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2017. Currently, she is a Ph.D. student at the same department. She has worked on the security assessment of large power systems with machine learning approaches during her M.Sc. program. Her research interest is dynamic security assessment.

Mert Kesici received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Kocaeli University, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Istanbul Technical University , where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree. He is currently a Research Assistant with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. His research interests include power system dynamics, stability and machine learning applications in power systems.

Alisan Ayvaz received the B.S. degree from the Ege University, Izmir, Turkey in 2013 and the M.S. degree from the Ondokuz Mayis University, Samsun, Turkey in 2017. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at the Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey. Since 2013, he has been with the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, University of Amasya, Amasya, Turkey, where he is currently a Research Associate. His research interests include power system stability, control, and optimization, and renewable energy systems.

Tohid Behdadnia was born in Oroumieh, Iran in 1995. After attending Andisheh Borna High School he was admitted to Urmia University in the field of Electrical Engineering in 2013. He is currently pursuing Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. Meanwhile, he is collaborating with Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey as a researcher under the supervision of Prof. Genc. His primary research interests are Power System Stability, Machine Learning and Data Driven Optimization.

Hina Gohar Ali is enrolled in Doctorate/ Ph.D. in the Department of Telecommunication and System Engineering in Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain since 2016-17. She received the B.E degree in Electronics Engineering from NED University of Engineering & Technology , Karachi, Pakistan. She has done her Master in Electrical & Electronics Engg. From Ghulam Ishaq Khan Insitute, Topi, Pakistan in 2015. Recently she has started Erasmus student exchange research stay in the Department of Electrical Engineering in Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. Her research interests include maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of photovoltaic, linear & non-linear controller and sliding mode controller for photovoltaic.

Kemal Aygül was born in Adana, Turkey. He received his B.Sc and MSc. degree in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Cukurova University in 2016 and 2019 respectively. He is currently a Research Assistant and pursuing the Ph.D. degree in the department of Electrical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. His research interests include the application of machine learning and optimization algorithms in electrical power systems including renewable energy sources.

Kasra Montakhabi Oskouei was born in 1996 in Tabriz, Iran. He received his B.Sc. of electrical engineering in Tabriz University, Iran in 2018. Currently, He is master of science degree student in Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, in electrical engineering. His research interests include power system stability and control, application of artificial intelligence on power systems and smart grids.
